Precipitation and floodiness

چکیده
There are a number of factors that lead to nonlinearity between precipitation anomalies and flood hazard; this nonlinearity is a pertinent issue for applications that use a precipitation forecast as a proxy for imminent flood hazard. We assessed the degree of this nonlinearity for the first time using a recently developed global-scale hydrological model driven by the ERA-Interim/Land precipitation reanalysis (1980–2010). We introduced new indices to assess large-scale flood hazard, or floodiness, and quantified the link between monthly precipitation, river discharge, and floodiness anomalies at the global and regional scales. The results show that monthly floodiness is not well correlated with precipitation, therefore demonstrating the value of hydrometeorological systems for providing floodiness forecasts for decision-makers. A method is described for forecasting floodiness using the Global Flood Awareness System, building a climatology of regional floodiness from which to forecast floodiness anomalies out to 2weeks.

Statistical modeling of the association between pervasive precipitation anomalies in Southern Alburz and global ocean-atmospheric patterns
Precipitation patterns are influenced by many factors, such as global atmospheric circulations to name but one. Precipitation patterns in Iran have always had great fluctuations even in a smaller scale like the Alburz Mountain Range. The present research has tried to find the relationship between global atmospheric patterns and the pervasive precipitation ones in Alburz. For doing so, 17 climat...

The precipitation of asphaltene, one of the components of oil, in reservoirs, transfer lines, and equipment causes many problems. Accordingly, researchers are prompted to determine the factors affecting asphaltene precipitation and methods of avoiding its formation. Predicting precipitation and examining the simultaneous effect of operational variables on asphaltene precipitation are difficult ...

Extended abstract 1- Introduction In order to calculate the erosive power of rainfall, high-resolution precipitation data are necessary for rainfall erosion evaluation. However, collecting the required data on kinetic energy of the rainfall particles and precipitation rates with short-term temporal resolution is a time-intensive task, particularly in developing countries, and the collecte...
متن کاملA comparative study on the dispersion of CuO-ZnO-Al2O3 nanoparticles over HZSM-5 via batch co-precipitation, semibatch co- precipitation and combined co-precipitation-ultrasound methods
A series of CuO-ZnO-Al2O3 nanoparticles over HZSM-5 were successfully prepared using different methods of batch co-precipitation, semibatch co-precipitation and combined co-precipitation-ultrasound. Nitrates of copper, zinc and aluminum were used as precursors, while Na-ZSM-5 was employed as composite support and sodium carbonate was used as precipitant agent. The effects of preparation methods...
متن کاملAssessment of Spatial and Temporal Variability of Extreme Precipitation Indices (North and West of Iran)
The frequency of precipitation extreme event can cause flood or change the drought period. Accurate understanding of these changes is necessary to take action to reduce these effects. In this research, temporal and spatial changes of 14 precipitation indices for eight synoptic stations in the North and West of the country were investigated. For this purpose, after reconstructing the daily preci...
